Amec Industrial Division. Milford Energy Ltd, Red Dragon Power Station, Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
Phase 5 of our contract March 2010.
The power station had been in full operation for over a month when a fire broke out at the junction of the wall cladding with a large exhaust flue from one of the turbines in the Turbine Hall. We were called to site the day after the fire and started on site 3 days later to reinstate the wall cladding and insulation. A paper breather membrane, polyethene vapour check and 15 year old insulation quilt had burnt significantly within the existing twin skin build up. It was decided to replace all the cladding and insulation and remove all paper and polyethene to the elevation. 480 Sq. metres of single skin profiled steel sheeting was stripped and resheeted the insulation being changed to 50mm thick rigid insulation batts fixed with stick pins. The plygene gutter which had been installed on the 1st phase of our works at the site was also replaced due to fire damage. Internal liners around the vents where also opened up and ceramic fire blanket quilt was installed to offer a fire check.
